POST 11 (WEEK 14): A SUBJECT YOU'VE ENJOYED STUDYING THIS SEMESTER
My favorite subject this semester is a workshop of architecture. In this course we carry out projects on land in Santiago, focusing on living in community together with sustainability. I like to work in pairs, always studying the environment of the land and the community to which the project is directed. We have had to make visits to the neighborhood on different occasions and at different times, all to get to know the place, the time of the people who frequent it and the activities that take place there. That was confusing at first, we didn't understand why they made us go to the place so much, but then you realize that it is essential to carry out a project according to what exists, the history and the built elements of the sector. We had to make models of various materials and complete plans of our architectural proposals. We also explore photography, drawing, and different types of graphic expression. With this, in the course I have managed to learn a lot about abstraction, project design strategies, spatial distribution, structural problems and solutions, thermal insulation, ventilation and natural lighting of spaces. It can be seen that it is quite comprehensive, different aspects of the profession are developed. I like that they demand that the entire project have universal accessibility for people with reduced mobility, in addition to sustainable innovations for constructions with low energy and water consumption. I think that it is a fundamental advantage since that is very suitable for the current context in which we find ourselves. I hope to have an experience like this again in the following project workshop courses.
